Our Sweet 16: A New Season Begins at Soul 2 Sole
There is something special about the start of a new dance season.
The freshly cleaned studios. New dance shoes waiting to be broken in. Teachers putting the finishing touches on lesson plans. Dancers walking through the doors excited, nervous, confident—or maybe holding onto a parent’s hand just a little tighter than usual.
But this year, the beginning feels just a little extra special.
On September 8th, we officially begin our Sweet 16 at Soul 2 Sole Dance Studio!
Sixteen seasons of dancing. Sixteen seasons of learning. Sixteen seasons of families trusting us with their children. Sixteen seasons of growing, changing, making mistakes, celebrating victories and continuing to build this little dance community that means so much to us.
And while turning 16 is certainly something worth celebrating, what makes it sweet isn’t really the number.
It’s the people who have helped us get here.

What Makes 16 So Sweet?
It’s the dancer walking through our doors for their very first class.
It’s the student who has been here for years and suddenly realizes they’re now one of the “big kids” they used to look up to.
It’s the teacher celebrating a skill right alongside a dancer who has worked for weeks to get it.
It’s the friendships made in class, the conversations in the waiting room, the families cheering from the audience and the familiar faces we get to welcome back each September.
It’s watching children grow up.
And it’s knowing that somewhere along the way, Soul 2 Sole has become more than just the place where they learned to dance.
More Than What Happens at the Barre
Of course, we want our dancers to learn.
We want them to understand their technique, build strength, develop musicality and learn the vocabulary and skills appropriate for their age and level. We want our youngest dancers learning how to take turns and follow directions just as intentionally as we want our older dancers learning to understand and take ownership of their bodies and movement.
Quality dance education matters to us.
But after 15 seasons, we also know that some of the most important things our dancers learn won’t necessarily happen while practicing a tendu, perfecting a tap step or working across the floor.
They happen when a dancer finally raises their hand to ask a question.
When someone struggles with a skill and decides to try one more time.
When a class cheers because their teammate finally got it.
When a dancer learns that someone else’s success doesn’t take away from their own.
And when a child walks into a room and realizes, there is a place for me here.
A Sweet 16 Built on Belonging
As we celebrate our Sweet 16, our word for this season is Belonging.
And we chose it very intentionally.
Belonging doesn’t mean everyone is the same.
Our dancers come into the studio with different personalities, abilities, goals, experiences and reasons for dancing. Some dream about the stage all week long. Some are here because dance is their favorite activity among several others. Some want to compete. Some want one class a week with their friends. Some walk into class ready to perform for anyone who will watch, while others need time before they’re comfortable stepping out of the back row.
There is room for all of them.
Our job as educators isn’t to make every dancer follow the exact same path. It is to meet the child standing in front of us, provide quality instruction, challenge them appropriately and help them discover what growth can look like for them.
Because ultimately, belonging isn’t about fitting in.
It’s about knowing there is a place where you are encouraged to grow while still being completely yourself.
Sixteen Seasons of Growing Together
When Soul 2 Sole began, we couldn’t have known all of the people who would eventually become part of its story.
Over the years, dancers have grown up in these classrooms. Families have spent countless evenings in our waiting rooms. Teachers have invested thousands of hours into classes, choreography, continuing education and conversations.
We’ve celebrated first dance classes and final recitals.
We’ve watched tiny dancers become assistants, leaders and role models.
We’ve seen friendships form, confidence grow and children accomplish things they once thought were impossible.
And our studio has grown right alongside them.
We continue to evaluate our curriculum, develop our programs, educate our staff and ask ourselves what our dancers need now—not simply what we’ve always done.
Because reaching Season 16 doesn’t mean we’ve figured everything out.
It means we’ve had 15 seasons to learn—and we’re still learning.
Here’s to Our Sweet 16
So what do we hope Season 16 looks like?
We hope it’s filled with hard work and lots of laughter.
We hope dancers try something new.
We hope they make mistakes and discover that mistakes aren’t something to fear.
We hope they find friends.
We hope they discover confidence they didn’t know they had.
We hope they learn a lot of dance—but also a little bit more about themselves.
And most importantly, we hope every dancer who walks through our doors knows that there is a place for them here.
To our returning families, thank you for continuing to grow with us.
To our new families, welcome to Soul 2 Sole. We’re so glad you’re here.
And to every dancer joining us this year—whether this is your sixteenth season or your very first:
Come exactly as you are.
We’ll meet you there.
Our Sweet 16 begins September 8th.
Let’s make it a sweet one.
Inspiring students to dance from their soul to sole.
